Israeli naval force intercepts Iranian weapon ship

On Tuesday November 3, a special Israel Navy force intercepted and boarded the cargo ship "Francop" flying an Antiguan flag, 100 miles off the coast of Israel, and brought it to the Ashdod port. Some 500 tons of weapons, rockets, and missiles were uncovered aboard the vessel, disguised as civilian cargo and hidden among hundreds of other containers.

The weapons found onboard the ship originate from Iran, and were intended for the Hizbullah terror organization, for use against the Israel. They constitute a harsh violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 1747 and 1701 that strictly forbid Iran from exporting or trading any form of weapons. Full story

Response to the Goldstone report

The Ambassador of Israel to Georgia HE Itzhak Gerberg made a comment on a report published on 15 September 2009 by the Gaza Fact-Finding Mission (The Goldstone report).

The Goldstone report is based almost entirely on Palestinian claims without any evidentiary sourse, while refraining from accusing Hamas of violation of international law.

The report presents a major challenge to democracies that are forced to act against terrorist groups such as Hamas.

The report with its simplistic approach ignored the reality and true nature of terrorism and the fact that Hamas has used Palestinians as human shields during its war with Israel while storing weapons in mosques as well as hospitals and attacking Israeli cities by missiles.

The report, in fact, ties the hands of democratic countries to fight terror worldwide and must concern any state confronting terrorism.

The state of Israel, needless to say, will continue to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks.
